What Do You Do Next?
By Jimmy Krug.
Question:
I remember reading about you and Jim Straw back in the 90’s. I used to go to a few of the old discussion boards all the time. Now, here we are over a decade later and I really feel like I’ve failed. I’ve bought so many books and courses. I don’t even know how much money I’ve spent. Is there such a thing as good advice for someone like me? I know I’m not alone out there!
Answer:
I think everyone out there can relate to you in some degree if not 100%. For myself, I made so many mistakes in business that after awhile, the only things left were the things that caused me to succeed! You may be closer to that than you realize!
Here’s some quick advice for you. Settle it inside what type of product or service it is that you want to sell. If you can’t decide, make a 6 month commitment to sticking with just one thing. You can do that much easier by writing down your start and stop point on a piece of paper. That’s your commitment. Six months to selling ONE product or service online. Six months dedicated to marketing ONE product or service online. Six months to writing about or promoting ONE product or service online. If you start now, your ending point will be in March.
Don’t just pick something you think should make a lot of money. Pick something you enjoy being involved in. Pick a product or service you feel good about selling.
Once you have that. Now you need to pick 2 options from the following lists of options. You’re now ready to market your ONE product or service. Let’s take a look at your options in a nutshell.
1. Affiliate Marketing
2. Blog Marketing
3. eBook Marketing
4. eMail Marketing
5. Press Release Marketing
6. Discussion Board Marketing
7. Video Marketing
8. Article Marketing
9. SEO Marketing
10. Social Marketing (FaceBook, MySpace, Twitter, etc.)
Pick two to focus upon. Only two. When I got started, I used discussion boards to connect with people. From there, email became the method of keeping in contact with them.
I enjoy talking with and being helpful to people, so those two methods were the right fit for my personality. You need to find the right fit for yours. Once again, if you enjoy the particular marketing method, it won’t seem like “work” to you most of the time.
I’ve seen the above work with a four month commitment was well. But six months seems to be the norm for discovering what’s really going to work for you and what isn’t.
I’d say good luck, but it isn’t about luck at all. It’s about creating a wise plan and sticking with it.
